DESCRIPTION:
Aquathlon event for the whole family! Swim in a pool and then run on neighborhood roads. This event is USAT sanctioned. The event will be timed by Bullseye Running. Event give-a-ways for the Sprint Aquathlon include Aquathlon transition towel, race belt, and finisher’s award. The Youth Splash and Dash is a part of the USAT Youth Splash and Dash Series and event give-a-ways include event series T-shirt and finisher’s medal as well as race belt. Participants must race their age as of Dec 31, 2017 in accordance with USAT rules.

Event will be held in waves of 8-16 participants by gender and age group starting with the Adult Aquathlon at 7:00 AM. Gender and ages groups may be combined depending on total number of participants. Start times of each wave will depend on total number of participants.

WAVES:
First wave will start at 7AM and then all preceding waves will start on a rolling basis after the finish of the last swimmer of the previous wave. A 2-5 minute warm up will be permitted. ~ 15 min for the Adult Aquathlon waves and 5-10 min for the Youth waves.
You will need to set up your Swim-Run Transition area prior to the start. Please arrive at around 6:30 to get set up. You will need at 45 min to set up and warm up prior to your start. 2017 WAVES may be combined. The waves will be on a rolling start. The first wave starts at 7:00 AM all other waves follow ~ 3 min after last person in each wave finishes.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
SWIM:
The swim will take in place in the 25 yd pool. You may swim any stroke. You may take short breaks at the end of the lengths. You may not use wetsuits, fins, paddles, other flotation devices and be eligible for awards. You may not pull on the lane lines. If you cannot finish the swim distance please inform a the Swim Marshal (yellow vest). You may continue with the run segment but will not be eligible for awards. You may provide your own lap counter. You may bring a towel and shoes to keep at the end of your lane for after the swim.
400 yds – 8 laps -16 lengths
200 yds – 4 laps – 8 lengths
100 yds – 2 laps – 4 lengths
TRANSITION:
You will set up your transition space prior to your waves start. You will set up your transition in the area marked for your wave. This space should include everything you need for the run segment. You must have shoes for running and race number on a race belt or T-shirt. Other recommended items are socks, hat, sunglasses, and water bottle. RACE NUMBER MUST BE VISIBLE FROM THE FRONT. This is required by the police and for timing. After the swim you will make your way to the transition area and put on running shoes and race number and other items as needed.
RUN:
RACE NUMBER MUST BE VISIBLE FROM THE FRONT. Exit the transition area and make a right turn on sidewalk of Quarterstaff road. The run starts here. BE CAUTIOUS OF UNEVEN PAVEMENT ON SIDEWALK. There will be a water stop at ~ .75 miles at Cardinal lane and the start of the footpath. If you cannot complete the distance of the run or have any other issue please inform an Event Marshal (yellow vest) that you need assistance. Parent may run with youth athlete. Parent should not cross finish line or have race number. The finish is in the field. Your race number needs to be visible from the front.
POST RACE:
Congratulations!! Enjoy post race refreshments and cheering on other athletes. Awards will be at the end after the last athlete finishes.
PARKING:
Limited parking at the Clemens Crossing Pool. Parking lots available at Atholton Seventh-day Adventist Church located just pass the pool on the left side of the road (see map below) 6520 Martin Rd Columbia, MD 21044, bear to the left for the parking lot and also at the Garbis Dental Associates located at 10203 Tanager Ln, Columbia, MD 21044 across the street from the pool. See maps below.
DISTANCES:
Sprint Aquathlon Ages 16 and over: 400 yds swim – 2 mile run
Youth Splash and Dash Ages 11-15: 200 yds swim – 2 mile run
Youth Splash and Dash Ages 7-10: 100 yds swim – 1 mile run
Run Map posted below. ~ 1 mile single loop; ~ 2 mile is 2 loops.
Run starts on sidewalk of Quarterstaff road – right turn on sidewalk of Cardinal Lane- right turn run on footpath- follow foot path to end at Quarterstaff road- make left turn on sidewalk and follow to a left turn at the Elementary school driveway- at the end of driveway 1 milers make left turn on Quarterstaff driveway and proceed to Clemens Crossing School fields for finish and ~ 2 milers will make a right turn on Quarterstaff road sidewalk for loop #2 and then finish as described previously.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY:
This event will be held rain or shine. In case of extreme weather conditions, such as thunderstorms or unsafe swimming conditions as determined by the event organizers and/or officials, the event will be modified or cancelled. Due to the upfront costs of putting on this event we cannot offer refunds. If unable to participate, registrations can be transferred to another athlete until June 15th for a $5 fee.
