Coach Liz Flynn successfully competed at her second Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on October 8, 2011. She delivered a stellar performance on a extremely hot day that rendered other athletes helpless. Liz, competing in the 40-44 age group, finished 15th in her age group having realized a PR of 35 minutes off her previous 2008 time. Congratulations Coach Liz! |

TriathaNewbie.com recently contacted us about their new feature, “Triathlete Profile”. They are showcasing new and seasoned triathletes on TriathaNewbie.com in this new segment. I thought some of you might be interested in sharing. Come-on-- you can help inspire more and more people to get off of their couches and give the sport of triathlon a try.
Here are the questions:
- How long have you been doing triathlons?
- How do you balance workouts with family/job responsibilities?
- What inspired you to try a triathlon?
- What is the best advice you can give a newbie?
- What is your favorite workout?
- Where and when is your first triathlon? What is the distance?
- Please send along pictures of yourself (not professional pics, as they are copyrighted) in a triathlon

Road Work Scheduled for Western Howard County |
|
Howard County construction project to improve a portion of Woodbine Road at Weller Drive (this is about 0.5 miles South of intersection of Woodbine/Rt 94 and Old Frederick Rd/Rt 144) in Woodbine is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, June 13. Improvements to the roadway will include: the removal of existing pavement; construction of new pavement, a retaining wall, a drainage system and a storm water management pond; replacement of curb and gutter; and grading of associated roadside. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late December 2011. Temporary lane closures are expected, signs will be in place to direct traffic as needed and to advise motorists of the construction. Additionally, a recorded message at 410-313-3638 will carry details and updates.
In addition Highways has tentatively identified some paving and patching projects - all dependent on funding and weather. Greenbridge Rd is scheduled to be repaved sometime in August. In addition, Triadelphia Mill is also intended for repaving (if funding can be identified) later this summer. Chip and seal patching schedule for the summer has not been set yet but roads identified for patching in the Western part of the County include: Long Corner Road, Duvall Road, Florence Road, A.E. Mullinix Road, Union Chapel Road, Millers Mill Road, Underwood Road, Gaither Road, Livestock Road and Carroll Mill Road. Since all of these roads are heavily used by cyclists we'll keep pushing communication as soon as we receive it.
